MAZDA

Mazda is a car, truck and SUV manufacturer based in Hiroshima, Japan. The majority of the company’s manufacturing plants are located in Japan and produce many of Mazda’s most recognizable vehicle models, including the Protégé, Miata and the RX-7.
Founded in 1920, the company that would become Mazda was originally a machine tool manufacturer named Toyo Cork Kyogo Limited. The company didn’t become Mazda until 1984; despite this, the company’s first vehicles – released in 1960 and 1962 – did feature the Mazda name. Between 1968 and 1970, Mazda entered the North American market and enjoyed immediate success thanks to a particular model of pickup truck that proved popular with Canadian and American buyers.

After a period of financial difficulty in the mid-1970s, Mazda launched the iconic RX-7 sports-style car in 1978, and entered into a partnership agreement with Ford one year later. For thirty years Ford remained a major shareholder in the company, however by 2010 Ford had sold most of its stock in Mazda. While the companies remain associated as a result of several ongoing projects, they are no longer considered to be allied in the area of technology development.
Mazda has released many different models of vehicles in European, Asian and North American markets. From the Eunos and Autozam, short-lived car models with a range of small design variations, to the cancelled Amati luxury line of vehicles, Mazda has entertained many original ideas for their products, not all of which have been successful.

Like most of their contemporary manufacturers, Mazda has been researching the use of hydrogen as fuel for many years, but has not introduced any alternative-fuelled cars to the market.
Interestingly, the first vehicle ever produced by Mazda (back when the company was still Toyo Kyogo) was a mechanized rickshaw called the Mazda-Go.
The 2015 models of Mazda vehicles include a range of sport, mid-size and sedan-style cars, as well as SUV’s and crossover models. The Mazda6, Mazda3 5-door hatchback, the Miata PRHT and the CX-9 are all for sale throughout North America. Mazda has invested heavily in its proprietary SKYACTIV features, which are designed to improve fuel efficiency and vehicle power. Introduced in 2011, the features affect nearly every aspect of their current vehicle designs, from aerodynamics to transmission and engine behavior.

In the marketing sphere, Mazda is well-known for the advertising slogan “zoom zoom”, which has been featured in the company’s television and radio advertising campaigns since 2000. However in May 2015 the company announced plans to introduce a new slogan, “driving matters”.
