CHEVROLET

While Chevrolet is not a stand-alone company, it is a uniquely independent division of car and truck manufacturer General Motors. Chevrolet was founded in 1911, and the company’s vehicles are often called “Chevys” by those who are familiar with the brand. In the early 20th century Chevrolet competed directly with Ford to provide the middle-class American consumer with an affordable vehicle; by 1929 Chevrolet had successfully surpassed Ford as the manufacturer of the best-selling automobile in the U.S.
Chevrolet was founded by a race car driver originally from Switzerland, Louis Chevrolet. He partnered with several investors to launch the company, which introduced its first production-model vehicle as part of a 1913 automobile show in New York City. The company’s iconic logo – a stylized cross that has had several variations over the last century – was introduced in 1914, making it a remarkably long-lasting emblem in an industry where logos are often retooled to reflect contemporary tastes.

By 1919, Chevrolet was producing commercial and consumer-appropriate trucks, seeking to corner the market in North America. In the 1920s Chevy produced an innovative truck model with a six-cylinder engine and then a car with a similar engine, which allowed the company to declare its vehicles the lowest-priced six-cylinder models on the market.

Chevrolet’s most enduring vehicle in terms of popularity and recognition could be the Corvette, a sports car that is known for a variety of different body styling depending on the era when the Corvette was produced. Arguably as popular would be the Impala, a classic Chevy car that was one of the top-selling American auto brands of all time and has been immortalized in West Coast American hip-hop culture thanks to artists including Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

According to 2011 figures compiled by GM, Chevrolet holds nearly a 37% market share in the U.S. sales market. Chevy also has a variety of vehicles in other markets that are actually GM vehicles but are branded as Chevrolets in order to benefit from the name recognition.
2015 Chevrolet car, SUV and truck models include the Camaro Convertible and Coupe, the City Express Cargo Van, the Colorado Crew Cab Pickup, a new Corvette Convertible model, the Cruze sedan and the Equinox Sport Utility Vehicle. Chevrolet offers an array of financing solutions for consumers and businesses, as well as authorized service options and aftermarket providers to ensure that today’s customers can purchase or lease a new Chevy vehicle with in-house financing, and drive off the lot with confidence knowing that a network of support and service outlets are available to them.
